Entomology Technician


Entocycle is a mission-driven company revolutionising how we feed animals. We are developing the world’s most efficient and sustainable system to produce protein. Combining natural biological processes with deep technological innovation, we rapidly transform local food waste into protein-rich insects to feed animals.


As part of the entomology team, you will assist in the maintenance of a Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) colony, in the development of an insect-protein production system, and in the design and implementation of entomological experiments. You are expected to have excellent attention to detail and good numerical and writing skills to assist in record keeping. You will work and communicate with a wide range of internal and external partners so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are key. You will be part of a busy team and should therefore be able to manage your own workload effectively. You should also be willing to take on new tasks and contribute to the wider organisation.


  • Rear and maintain the Black Soldier Fly colony

  • Carry out entomological experiments

  • Collect food waste from local suppliers

  • Safely operate the machinery required for insect production and processing

  • Keep detailed and well organised records

  • Assist in the design of experiments

  • Assist with literature research

  • Assist with administrative activities



  • Science degree or equivalent work experience

  • Experience carrying out scientific experiments and working to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Experience collecting and organising scientific data

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Proven ability to work within a team

  • Proven ability to work independently and organise your own priorities

  • Ability to comply to a Health & Safety policy with emphasis on personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements

  • Willingness to work one day over the weekend (5 day working week)


  • Experience rearing insects

  • Research experience within the private sector

  • Full driver’s licence and willingness to drive within central London

  • Willingness to cycle in central London

  • Ability to lift 20kg


Contract: Full-time, permanent (37.5 hours per week including weekend work)

Salary: £24,000 per annum

Line manager: Head of Entomology

Location: London Bridge
